Balance is a very helpful word to reflect upon in January. We often feel under pressure this month, to change all sorts of things in our lives. Perhaps we pledge to give something up, or become more this or that…….
Always, inside ourselves, we know what is best for us. One way to hear this advice is to look at how our lives are balanced.
Think of yourself as a car, with four wheels and tyres. Each of the tyres respresents a different aspect of your being: Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual. How pumped up are each of your tyres?! Does the Physical tyre need inflating a little, or is the Emotional one about to burst it is so full? Or are 2 or 3 of the tyres quite flat, or overfull?
Take some time just to think about this and look for where there is a lack. Here is where it would be helpful to put in some energy, and thereby achieve balance with the other aspects.
Be gentle.

'How often are you 'doing' rather than 'being'?'
It only takes 5 minutes of your day, perhaps on the bus, train, in the bath, or in bed - wherever you are - close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, breathing right down into your abdomen, and, as you breathe out, relax into the seat, bath, bed, floor.... then just breathe naturally.
Next listen, without judging or engaging with, what is going on around you - chatter, silence, train engines......
After around 5 minutes, breathe deeply again in and out, 2 or 3 times, then slowly open your eyes.
